IRKRS section

Postby andrewp on Sun Nov 01, 2009 5:36 pm

Hi guys,

As a number of us are members and many are friends of the society I thought it appropiate at this time to create a section for discussing all things that apply to IRKRS and things that cross over could be put here.

I don't know where else to put it....maybe a whole new category instead of a specific site section.

Just a thought....what do we all think.

How about we start with an explaination of what IRKRS stands for and the benefits or who it would benefit. Just so people know what you're talking about and can comment.

Real good stuff Kym. If you haven't checked it out before, I can't recommend it highly enough.

The IRKRS is a research society started by Hanshi Patrick McCarthy. It's a bit like OzBudo in that it has no political ties and is open to everyone. There is a definite taste of Hanshi PM's style in there though.

If you interested in the history of Karate, with references to other arts here and there, a sensational place to go!

I stated who it was for....what it was for and is in the Style/School/Site Specific!!!

I'm glad to put it in a nutshell for you though....Hanshi's philosophy is that karate changed from what it was to what it is and through his massive research he believes that he has piced it back together. The IRKRS is that research hub with stacks of information about karate philosophy and and history.

Gentlemen, thankyou but I have been aware of the IRKRS for a couple of years as part of the research into Shindo Jinen Ryu.
I just thought that as you started the thread you may wish to let the uninformed know what it was about. I think the research method of reverse engineering (can't think of the correct term) of techniques and history and drawing upon lodgical conclusions to the truth is a good way to get students and masters alike to look deeper into their beliefs.
Anyway I think it is a great society to be involved with. The link I originally found it through was USADojo's. I believe there is also recognition from Howard High's site. (Ryobu Kai)

I got 6 new KU DVDs last night. I cannot believe the depth of material in those DVDs. It took a couple of hours just to get through the nyumon (beginner) DVD, and that is without actually training any of it. It is really amazing stuff, exactly what I have been searching for for the past 25 years. It is a broad based, comprehensive, effective martial art practised in a 'traditional' format with all of the history, philosophy etc intact. I won't use any superlatives, but I am extremely happy to have found KU and IRKRS, and although I was previously aware of the organisation, it is thanks to :ozb: that I have delved into it.
