IBF Australia

The International Budo Federation has been around for over 30 years internationally. Earlier this year Rod Harris of "Freestyle Praying Mantis" in NSW and Sth. Aussie Jujitsuan Leo Richards came on board as members. The "Australian Pangration Athlima Federation." also became affiliated. It is now my pleasure to announce 3 new members who joined last week.
Shihan Terry Warke of Shinja Kai in Sth Australia, a former Joe Lamarca BB and also has a BB in Jujitsu from the MIWIO Jujitsu club.
Shihan Bruce Freeman, an instructor of karate and judo in NSW graded by Wally Szlagowski. His club is the Blacktown Dragon's Karate club.
The other is MMA promoter Shane Balmer of "Underground MMA" in NSW.

As you can see from these few alone there is a very diverse range of styles represented.

Thanks guys. I have to say that Rob's work over 30 years ago has made my job easy with the network built through interclub goodwill visits we did over the years. I'm luck to have so many instructors that are happy to put up with me and support me. Look how quickly kids can get a hundred gate crashers to a party ... they just let a few know and the word gets around. I also have the advantage of a great E-newsletter and a great forum in which to build that communication as well so I'm not on my own.

Just found out today that Iraq through enquiries via our website connected up and is now a member country. Also we have new member counties IBF-USA, IBF-Syria and IBF-Canada. I believe that now makes 32 countries in all.

so many lines and too much political correctness.
Certainly through the e-mail we recieved they are a very humble lot but I guess the violence in their country would certainly focus the syllabus on a battlefield mind set.

The biggest win is getting the USA on board because I know this is a market they have been looking at for a long time.

IBF Australia has had some great support from Mario Schapp of the USA. He put together a great introduction video taken at the IBF World Karate Championships in the Netherlands which can be seen at the updated site http://www.ibf.com.au

Meanwhile on Nov 27th, "MMA Underground" had a Fight Night at the Snake Pit, Wollongong.
There were 11 fights, including one junior and one female fight.
The 3 judges were sensei Terry Derwin IBF Sydney, Sensei Lee Carr IBF Wollongong and Head Judge Terry Riches.
There were at least 6 IBF members fighting, and they accounted for themselves very well. The main event was Mick Cutajar's fight, a fall whilst attempting a strangle resulted in Mick having a crushed throat which quick expanded and cut off his air supply.
Mick fell to the floor out cold and not breathing, the ambulance was called and he was taken to hospital, he had surgery and his now fine. The fight went to David Frendin.
The stand out performance of the night was by IBF instructor Rod Harris, Preying Mantis\Judo, he destroyed his opponent who would not come out for the 2nd round.

A great night was had by all, and the next one will be in March\April and Mick is looking for fighters who want to try out for a first time match.

Also in SA we will be having a training day on Saturday March the 27th. Hopefully we may squeeze in a pangration workshop.
IBF is now on facebook and has a lot of overseas members joining in with IBF-Scotland, IBF-Ireland and IBF-UK amongst them.

I have the pleasure to inform you that we now have a new member from Tasmania. Sifu Stuart Clayton of the Wing Chun Kungfu Academy has a very impressive venue and a comprehensive training schedule. Hopefully he'll come on board here and join us. Anyone going over there make sure you drop in . I'll have his details soon. IBF (AKA Terry) will also have some info coming about an exciting affiliation with an organization that encompasses wrestling codes including Pangration and Sombo.
Anyway here's a link to Sifu Stuart's site for starters

A letter from Terry, National President.

"We held the first Pankration comp under FILA on 20th and it went very well. This was the 1st of many to come and a national circuit will be coming very soon.
You can see a clip on you tube of it, thanks to Terry Williams.
We have the AJU Nationals next month, and after that we will be looking at running an IBF comp in Wollongong and Robertson which will include Pankration.

Regards
Terry Riches"

I'm sure a few of you would look forward to this style of comp. Whats your thoughts Ash / Leo

I have just realized that one new member I have forgotten to mention who joined us a short time ago is the editor of the pangration video above and well known martial artist Terry Williams of Bulli MMA, NSW.
Great to have these guys on board because of their connection to the Traditional martial arts and also with the modern ring craft of cage and pangration/sambo competitions.
