Info for my 15yo bro...

Postby progdan on Mon Feb 08, 2010 9:17 pm

Hey folks, my younger brother is keen to start up Martial Arts, fitness and fun would be his main goal at this stage I'd say...

His friend did Taekwondo for a while, so he's interested in that, I suggested perhaps that or Karate would be reasonably accessible arts for him to start out in, but he's sort of in that age group where he's probably too old for kids classes but not super tough or coordinated so he'd have to be at a well taught place... Any thoughts or places which might be good? Or other arts I haven't thought of? North-Northeast of the city is ideal... Cheers.

I'm in Pooraka and Ingle Farm. Not sure if that's useful. 14or15+ only in my school.

Really depends what he wants though, if it's fitness, I'm not the best person around. For fun, maybe, for learning definitely. Karate is great. TKD is very popular also. What about Judo?

Hey Shaun, I think a standup art would be best for him, he's reasonably thickset and I don't think as interested in throwing and what not. And when I say fitness, I mean just doing something physically active as opposed to doing nothing physically active... ;)

Ingle Farm would actually be very close, could you message me with the necessary details for your Karate classes and I'll pass them onto my parents? Cheers. :)

Adelaide Academy of Combat & Defence
Ingle Farm/Semphore
Shotokan Karate, Combat Hapkido
8411 5209 (VM) (or 0423 233 649 after hours)

Best bet would be to give me a buzz, but best class to start would be Wednesdays 7:30pm, Ingle Farm Rec Centre (Cnr Roopena St & Beovich Rd)
