The Adelaide Academy of Combat and Defence aims to teach all its students traditional and ethical martial arts. This will be done in a safe and friendly atmosphere in a smoke free environment. To ensure that all students achieve their maximum potential, whether in self-defence, improved fitness or competition, all instructors will be qualified in first aid as well as being knowledgeable and experienced in their particular art, its rules and customs. It is the policy of the Adelaide Academy of Combat and Defence that all students will only use their skills in the event of extreme danger and will do nothing to hurt the goodwill of the school or martial arts.

Etiquette

All martial arts centre around a formal traditional background, which revolves around having and displaying respect at all times for your instructor and seniors, your fellow students and the training hall. Respect is usually shown in two ways, from within by showing a quiet display of calmness and externally with a bow. Learning and showing respect is an essential part of Martial Arts. Good respect at all times requires self-discipline, which produces self-control even in the face of injustice or provocation. Martial Arts encourage a person to practice etiquette at all times. It is customary to bow when entering or leaving the dojo, before resting and resuming training and when facing a partner. ALWAYS be early for training and try your best.

Martial Arts Code

I promise to uphold the true spirit of Martial Arts and never use the skills that I am taught against any person for any reason except the defence of myself, my family or my friends in the instance of extreme and immediate danger under unprovoked attack, or in support of law and order.

“The ultimate of the Martial Arts lies not in the victory or defeat, but in the perfection of the character of its participants” - Sensei Gichin Funakoshi
